Commonly known as acrylics or polyacrylates, acrylate polymers are noted for their transparency and resistance to breakage when compared to conventional window glass. A form of acrylate polymer that may be familiar to consumers is a clear break resistant sheeting sold in hardware stores under the trade name Plexiglas.

Some acrylate monomers (the components of the polymers) used to form acrylate polymers may be acrylic acid, butyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile, n-butanol, methyl methacrylate, and TMPTA.
