Plastic limit
From Plastics Wiki, free encyclopedia
The Plastic Limit of a soil marks the movement from a brittle solid to a plastic; it is dependent on water content, somewhat arbitrary value and one of the Atterberg Limits - it has many uses in soil mechanics.
The plastic limit is found by the thread test and is the water content when a thread of soil crumbles when rolled to 3mm thick. There are numerous esoteric standards set for the experiment such as how the thread is rolled with the hand.
