Omf Turra
This company, based in north Italy, has been producing exclusively high tech vertical injection machine since 1955. These machineries are fit to overmould miscellaneous inserts (metal, threadlike, and so on) with thermoplastic materials.

1.1 History
Born in 1955 as F.lli Turra as manufacturing company of buttons machines, today OMF TURRA is a modern company leader in the vertical Injection Moulding production for the techno polymers injection moulding and especially for the ability to answer to all peculiar and difficult requests, with focalized and qualified solutions studied in partnership with the customer. In almost fifty years of activity, this company has comprehended the technologic dynamics of the machines development for moulding reaching an high qualitative and efficient standard. Fundamental resource of this company is the capacity to study special solutions on co-moulding sector, accordingly with each inquiry of the customers; in this sector the “tailor made” is a necessity and in the manufacturing of middle/small machines it is increasing; for this reason a company dynamic, easy and fast like OMF TURRA could customize the machines with competitive prices, better than big companies with heavy structures, also efficient but with high production costs and long answer time. OMF TURRA has a staff of employee with high experience and well-tested skill, the machines are designed and produced for a niche market (80% in standard version and 20% customized on customer needs): automotive industry (electrical cables, keys, fuel filters etc), electrical, medical (syringes, cannulas), garden (connections, garden tools) and more and more. As Mr. Mario Turra (President of the company) says, OMF TURRA production is “…from doll eyes up to the fuel injection…..”

1.2 Presses range - introduction
OMF TURRA offers, as standard production, two families of presses: the PASCAL series and the CIGNO series. In addition to these two series of "standard" presses, the company offers special machine models intended for the production of special products over which we will look later on.
ROTARY TABLE
The "CIGNO" series is offered exclusively with rotary table.
With the machines in the CIGNO series, which is composed by the models FTV30/20, FTV 60/40, FTV 800/380 and FTV 1200/450, we wish to provide effective help towards solving the problem of the moulding together of great range of particulars with inserts, from the medium/small ones to the big size ones, by manual or automatic loading. The bridge structure offers a notable space between the columns and this makes these machines very versatile and ideal for fitting moulds or insert at big sizes. As the base of the rotary table is fitted with vertical shelves, the machines can be combined with loading/unloading robot or operating units complementary to the moulding cycle can be added.
The original design of the closing system with the double movement of the plates means that the rotary table can be made at big sizes and relatively light and can rotate and be positioned very quickly. The rotary table is operated by an hydraulic motor, it has an hourly rotation movement and can be divided into the necessary fixed number of stations; the machines can be supplied in the model with electronic control in order to get two or more stations combinations (for example 2/4 or 3/4) that can be selected from computer.
The screw injection unit injects the material into the centre of the mould, it is mobile and is made with concentric pistons which make it a very compact and solid unit. The cylinder with a diameter from 22 to 55 mm has an L/D ratio from 18 to 24 as per the machine model and can satisfy all moulding requirements. - The screw speed can be continually adjusted - The injection pressure can be set at 3 values in 3 positions along the stroke. - The counter-pressure during plasticizing is adjustable.
The closing unit, consisting of a steel structure which slides on 4 columns with a suitable diameter, carries out two movements: the upper bridge lifts in order to perform the mould opening and the lower plate lowers by 10 mm about thus freeing the rotary table without graze of the rotary plan, by means of an original lever kinematism for the machines FTV 30/20 and FTV 60/40, and by means of a double piston cylinder for the machines FTV 800/380 and FTV 1200/450. The closure and opening speed is adjustable and can be stored; for the machine FTV 800/380 and FTV 1200/450 the closing force and the moulds thickness too can be adjusted using data set from the keyboard and then stored in the bulk memory of the computer on the machine. - The closing force is from 180 to 1200 kN as per the machine model - The mould is protected by adjustable pressure and intervention
LINEAR TABLE
The "PASCAL" series is proposed, ususally, with the linear table (T shape)
in order to increase productivity in relation to a normal vertical injection
machine without external table.
The "PASCAL" series, composed by the machine models FTV 300/80, FTV 600/145 and FTV800/380 and FTV 1200/450 is the result of many years experience in the construction and design of vertical machines produced exclusively for moulding together various parts.
FTV 300/80, FTV 600/145, FTV 800/380 and FTV 1200/450 satisfy the following requirements by:
- Offering the possibility of applying external tables of the following types
Linear table, with angular movements, with two half moulds Rotary table, with an optional number of stations.
- Shelf with front movement, forwards and backwards, for moulding parts together using just one mould. - This model keeps the inserts steady by reducing the mould movement to a minimum, as the upper part of the mould is lowered during the closing phase.
The closing system is based on two concentric pistons: the smaller central one is used to perform the fast opening and closing procedure, whereas the second external one, with the larger diameter, has the task of providing the closing force required.
The speed, the closing force and the thickness of the moulds can be adjusted using data set from the keyboard and then stored in the bulk memory of the computer on the machine. Use of external tables has now become firmly established and is universally recognized as being the best way of reducing the production cycle as the inserts are loaded while the moulding cycle is carried out. As a result, it is possible to increase productivity by 50%. Apart from this important advantage, our linear table system with angular movement, introduced way back in 1972, provides another important advantage: the distance between the moulds in the insert loading/discharge position is reduced, so that the operator no longer has to "dance about" from one side of the machine to the other.
For both series the injection unit is based on the well tried and tested system using two telescopic cylinders. This arrangement enables a very compact unit to be made, suitable for use on vertical machines for which a limited machine height guarantees good performance, without harmful waving movements being caused by the use of injection units normally designed for horizontal machine models. Moreover, to control the machine, a multi-processor system has been adopted in both cases. It transfers the machine functions to a super-fast PLC and the man-machine interface to a powerful PC that offers enormous dialogue and data storage opportunities. The control software is the natural result of years of experience in moulding combined with suggestions made by our vast clientele. The outcome is an "operator friendly" approach to the world of computers.
